Situated below a ring of eleven of Nepal’s major peaks, the Sanctuary has spectacular views of each of these giants. A skyline panorama circling west to south from within the Sanctuary includes: Huinchuli (6441m), Annapurna South (7219m), Fang (7647m), Annapurna I (8091m), Roc Noir (7485m), Glacier Dome (7193m), Gangapurna (7455m), Annapurna III (7556m), Fluted Peak (6390m), Machhapuchare (6993m), and Mardi Himal (5555m). It is a panoramic thrill flying into Kathmandu on a clear day. The views of snow-capped mountain peaks sprawling down below you are almost ecstatic, beginning a whole chain of memorable experiences that stay with you for a long, long time. A representative and driver from our office will meet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel. At the hotel you will be briefed about your daily activities. Overnight at Hotel.
Kathmandu is the historical and cultural heart of Nepal and has been a popular destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its doors to visitors. The city presents a wonderful mix of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influence in the Valley. Patan and Bhaktapur, its two major neighboring cities bear immense historical, cultural and religious significances. There will be a half day guided tour to the famous and biggest Hindu shrine of Pashupatinath, the largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal Boudhanath, the 15th century Palace of 55 windows and Swayambhunath. Overnight at Hotel.
From the hotel you will be taken to the airport for your brief flight to Pokhara. This is a stunning and exciting flight in its own right passing over the Himalayan foothills, with views of the main range. From Pokhara, it takes about 1-1½ hours to drive to Dhampus Phedi then it is a steep two-hour uphill walk to the village of Dhampus for lunch, with Annapurna as the backdrop. The trail then ascends more gradually for a couple of hours to Pothana, a small village in the middle of the woods, with a captivating view of the Annapurna range including the majestic Mt. Machhapuchare (‘Fish Tail’), a beautiful spot for your first overnight stay in a tea house. Bahundanda means “Hill of the Brahmins” and the settlement of the mainly Hindu population is perched on the crest of a ridge. There is a small temple in the village and in the centre of the village square is a large pipal tree, which has religious importance. If you still have some energy after your day’s walk there are some rejuvenating hot springs 30 minutes away. Overnight at Local Tea House or Lodge.
Staring from Pothana, the trail leads up through chestnut forest with occasional views of the snow-capped summits. The trail ascends gradually for about an hour, before reaching the ridge top at Deurali. Deurali is a ideal spot with charming views of the surrounding landscape. After a brief stop here, a steep half hour descent brings you down to Bheri Kharka. The trail is then almost level with a few undulations until you reach Landrung village (about an hour from Bheri Kharka). From Landrung, the route turns northwest towards Chomrong, and an hour’s hike brings you to the bank of the River Modi. From here the trail winds uphill gradually, beside the river, for an hour until you arrive at New Bridge. From New Bridge you traverse round to cross a river and then ascend very steeply to the houses of Jhinu Danda for your overnight stay. Overnight at Local Tea House or Lodge.
You start climbing until you reach the main Ghandrung to Chomrong trail. The trail then ascends more subtly to a corner before making a long climb on stone steps to Chomrong village, the entrance to the Sanctuary. If weather permits, you will be rewarded with a surplus of captivating mountain views, which include Annapurna South (7220m), Hiunchuli (6441m), Annapurna III (7555m), Machhapuchare (6993m), and Gandharba Chuli (6248m). From Chomrong the trail lingers down on steps through cultivated fields to cross the river. After the bridge it is steeply uphill through farmland and forest for an hour and a half to Sinuwa Danda, a small hamlet on the ridge with 2-3 teahouses and offering splendid views of the surrounding landscape. Overnight at Local Tea House or Lodge.
Starting from Sinuwa, an hour’s trek through the woods takes you to the small village of Khuldi-ghar, where your trekking permit and conservation ticket is checked and registered. From here you descend on slabs and then ascend gently upwards to a small place called Bamboo, 2,347m/7,700ft, named after the thick vegetation in this area. Another hour’s walk through bamboo forest, following the River Modi upstream, will bring you to another small hamlet of Dovan, or Dobang. You then proceed more steeply uphill, high above the river until you reach Himalaya at 2870m. A few short steep ascents on and you arrive at Deurali. Overnight at Local Tea House or Lodge.
Our next destination is to reach Machhapuchhare base camp. You ascend and descend as your route opens up new trails. On climbing steeply for a while, you approach Hinku Cave. This course follows zigzag paths of stones. After walking for 3 to 4 hours, you enter the Annapurna circuit Sanctuary, a huge amphitheater enclosed by a solid wall of snow-capped peaks which include Annapurna I, II, III and IV and the fish tail spire of Machhapuchhare. Several lodges and Annapurna inns are spotted at Deorali and Bagar. Finally, you will find yourself at Machhapuchhare Base Camp, a grassy moraine platform. You can rest at one of the lodges, and treat yourself with hygienic food. Overnight at Local Tea House or Lodge.
On hiking the Annapurna circuit trail for 2 hours, you descend a small ridge branching out from the mountain pass to mountainside with widespread terraced fields showcasing tranquil meadows and lush fertile farming land. As you reach Annapurna South Base Camp, witness awesome picturesque landscapes, majestic panoramic view of snow-capped mountainous peaks and varied Himalayan cultural settings tucked beneath the southern slopes of the Annapurna massif. Thereafter, you head back down to Himalaya Hotel. Overnight at Local Tea House or Lodge.
On your trails, you bypass rhododendron-covered ridge path, mountainous terrains and forests of bamboo. As you savor awe-inspiring views of Annapurna mountain ranges and Machhapuchhare, you gather more energy and enthusiasm to explore further. During your six-hour walking, you cross Modi Khola, pass through Khuldigar, Bamboo and Dovan and finally reach Himalaya Hotel where you wrap up your trip for the day. Overnight at Local Tea House or Lodge.
As you continue climbing along the forested ridge residing in the vicinity of chains of cloud-snaring hills, a grass-covered slope opens up leading to a course descending across a rock-strewn area to the riverbed of Kali Gandaki. Kali Gandaki is the world’s deepest river gorge of great bio-geographical significance regarded as demarcating Eastern and Western avifauna. The trail up the Modi Khola passes through dense forests of rhododendron and bamboo across Annapurna mountain range. After trekking for 5 hours, you reach Chomrong. From Chomrong you can have prominent and mesmerizing view of Machhapuchhare. There are many chalet-style wooden lodges at Chomrong which provide accommodation and food. Overnight at Local Tea House or Lodge.
From Chomrong, we take an alternative route back to Pokhara, via Ghorepani. As you skirt through flatland, forests and terraced fields, a suspension bridge comes your way. As you ascend steeply, you pass through dense rhododendron forest to Tadapani which is an ideal vantage point to glimpse heavenly sight of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhare. Overnight at Local Tea House or Lodge.
From Tadapani, you proceed further along steep trails. Nature spreads exotic sight of majestic snow-capped mountain peaks, lush vegetation and rich plant life before you. You climb through rhododendron forest to Deurali [3100m] and reach a hamlet and cultivated fields. Continue walking for 3 hours and finally you will find yourself in Ghorepani. Ghorepani also houses lodges to provide food and accommodation to travelers. Overnight at Local Tea House or Lodge.
Overlooking Ghorepani is Poon Hill [3193m]. An hour-long pre-dawn ascent gives us the opportunity to see the fascinating views of the Annapurnas and Dhaulagiri glowing in the morning sun. After breakfast, we begin the long descent to Birethanti through magnificent oak and rhododendron forests. From the village of Ulleri, a long steep stone staircase seems to go on forever before eventually reaching Hille. A more gradual descent then brings us to Birethanti. Overnight at Local Tea House or Lodge.
One and half hour minutes beyond Hille, you come to the main road. Now you can easily access any means of transportation to drive to Pokhara. In the evening, you are free to wander by the lakes of Pokhara. You can spend your day in Pokhara as you like, you can either relax in your hotel or do sightseeing on your own.
