This trek is a perfect introduction to the Everest Khumbu area, perhaps the most famous region in the entire Himalaya. Without going to altitude extremes, we visit Sherpa villages and Thyangboche monastery, which offers views of Mt. Everest rising behind the Lhotse-Nuptse wall. Flying in from Kathmandu we descend amid an incredible mountain landscape to the remote yet bustling mountain airstrip at Lukla. Met by our trekking crew we head up the Dudh Kosi Valley to the main Sherpa market town of Namche Bazaar, set in a natural bowl surrounded by glistening snow-capped peaks. Here we acclimatise whilst visiting the nearby traditional villages of Thame, Kunde and Khumjung. Heading further up the valley, through forest we arrive at the famous Buddhist monastery of Thyangboche, “The Great High Place” where Everest Summiteers seek blessings before their attempts. The Himalayan giants, including Everest and Ama Dablam, tower above this valley, a dramatic and inspiring place. We have a day to visit Pangboche and the oldest monastery in the Khumbu region before following a slightly different route back to Namche Bazaar and onto Lukla. Our early morning mountain flight to Kathmandu is a fitting climax to a fantastic trek.

It is a panoramic thrill flying into Kathmandu on a clear day. The views of snow-capped mountain peaks sprawling down below you are almost ecstatic, beginning a whole chain of memorable experiences that stay with you for a long, long time. A representative and driver from our office will meet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel. At the hotel you will be briefed about your daily activities. Overnight at Hotel.
Kathmandu is the historical and cultural heart of Nepal and has been a popular destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its doors to visitors. The city presents a wonderful mix of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influence in the Valley. Patan and Bhaktapur, its two major neighboring cities bear immense historical, cultural and religious significances. There will be a half day guided tour to the famous and biggest Hindu shrine of Pashupatinath, the largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal Boudhanath, the 15th century Palace of 55 windows and Swayambhunath. Overnight at Hotel.
A flight to Lukla and a landing on a steep mountain runway brings us to the start of our trek at the village of Lukla [2850m]. After meeting the crew, we head up the Dudh Koshi Valley on a well-marked trail and then stay overnight in Phakding. Lunch, Dinner and Overnight at Lodge.
From Phakding, we cross and re-cross the river on high suspension bridges. Beyond Monjo is the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park which was set-up in order to protect and preserve the fragile mountain environment. We then take a steep hike to Namche. If the weather is clear, we get the first glimpse of Mt Everest. Namche is the main trading village in the Khumbu and has a busy Saturday market - a meeting place for the Hindu traders from the lowlands and the Tibetan yak caravans that have crossed the glaciated Nangpa La. Lunch, Dinner and Overnight at Lodge.
Namche is tucked away between two ridges amidst the giant peaks of the Khumbu and has an abundance of lodges, tea shops and souvenir shops. It is an ideal place to spend a day, acclimatizing to the new altitude before heading off towards Tengboche. To acclimatize, you visit Khunde Hospital set-up by Sir Edmund Hillary, or take a one hour walk up to the Everest View Hotel above Namche for the sunset view of Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse and Everest. There are also good views from the National Park Centre and Museum just above the town. Lunch, Dinner and Overnight at Lodge.
On the 6th day of the itinerary, you will head to Kunde from Namche, after taking the breakfast. You may find Kunde as an interesting destination for the trek. Kunde is a village where you can find the settlement of Sherpa and it is situated to the North of Namche Bazzar. Lunch, Dinner and Overnight at Lodge.
Heading east, we pass a large Chorten and then descend to a bridge across the Dudh Koshi at Phunki Tenga. From the river, the trail ascends through a forest of pine and rhododendron, before arriving at Thyangboche Monastery. The views here are truly awesome, from the beautiful Ama Dablam to Lhotse and Everest at the head of the valley. The gompa has been rebuilt since a tragic fire in 1989 destroyed it. The monastery is well worth a visit. Lunch, Dinner and Overnight at Lodge.
Today’s visit include an excursion to Pangboche Monastery and the nunnery at Deboche. The monastery at Pangboche, founded in 1667, is the oldest in the Khumbu region. The magnificent views of Ama Dablam are the highlight of today's walk. Trek back to Thyangboche. Lunch, Dinner and Overnight at Lodge.
From Thyangboche, there is a short climb, then level path with several switchbacks. From Namche, we descend to Monjo through same trail that we climb to Namche. Lunch, Dinner and Overnight at Lodge.
Our final day's trekking follows the Dudh Koshi back down to Lukla. This last evening in the mountains presents an ideal opportunity for a farewell party with the Sherpa guides and porters. We get to sample chang (local beer), try some Sherpa dance steps and end the trek on a merry note. Lunch, Dinner and Overnight at Lodge.
After an early breakfast, we head to the airstrip for our return journey to Kathmandu. Later, you are free for independent activities. You stay overnight in a hotel. Overnight at Hotel.
Breakfast at the hotel. We ensure that you will leave Kathmandu with cherishing memory and an experience of a lifetime. Our representative from Nepal Himalayan Voyages will drive you to the airport in time for your flight back home.
